About the Workshop:
Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, originating in the 1800s for fishermen to document their catches. It involves applying ink—traditionally sumi ink—to a cleaned and prepared fish and pressing washi onto it to capture intricate details, from scales to fins. As a recognized art form, gyotaku is used to create detailed, lifelike, or artistic representations of sea life.
