Maryann Cannon
ARTIST STATEMENT
Intaglio Etching has not changed in hundreds of years, but I get great satisfaction of creating something totally by hand. My image is chemically etched into my metal plate with acid, I then look for ways to create variety of line, shade and texture in my plates. I hand mix my inks and have a variety of modern inks and watercolor to complete my print. The Fairy Series is a fantasy of a little dragon fly creatures placed in different settings. She can be whimsical erotic or inquisitive. I am strongly influenced by nature studies or Landscapes in a sketchbook. Common Weeds are inspiring to me. These collections are ongoing and growing.
