ARTIST STATEMENT

I've been an artist since I could first hold a crayon. Born in New York State, I grew up in Texas, where I earned my BFA from the University of Texas at Austin. I have also studied at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where I was introduced to printmaking. The limitless variety of printmaking techniques has kept me fascinated and challenged through the years. I found new ways to print with linoleum while living in Antigua, West Indies, and I learned mezzotint while living in Moscow, Russia in the late 1990's.

My subject matter of choice is the human face and figure. My goal is to capture the spirit of humanity on an individual level. Somewhere along the way I realized I couldn't take credit for the talent I was born with; it was a gift. I can, however, take credit for the effort I've made over the years to master my craft, and to keep art as an important part of my life. Art is entertainment, hard work, distraction, frustration, and sometimes, satisfaction. A success inspires me for a new project, but so, too, does a failure. I learn from it, and I go on.
