Steve Kennedy

ARTIST STATEMENT

I began printmaking 8 years ago when I took a class with Merle Spandorfer. She introduced me to the dark field monotype and I’ve been engaged in this type of printmaking ever since. My subjects vary, but my aim in all of them is to convey a sense of light and atmosphere with a painterly approach. While oil painting often involves a process that often takes weeks or even months to complete, the process of printmaking is more immediate and somewhat unpredictable. I enjoy the relative lack of control in making prints and I am always surprised.
