Artist Statement
The work in this series is motivated by my ongoing interest in the many forms of human communication.
We have a need to be heard and a need for privacy.
This constant dichotomy creates openness but also frequently obscures understanding, causing frustration and miscommunication.
The symbols utilized in this artwork are influenced by some of the earliest forms of articulation, the petroglyphs and cave drawings of indigenous peoples.
Left for us to decipher, these have inspired me to attempt to create a symbolic and emotive visual form of communication in my work.
