THE AMERICAN COLOR PRINT SOCIETY

After devoting ten years of service as President, Idaherma Williams has stepped down. Assuming her position is both an honor and a major responsibility. Under her leadership ACPS established a web site and gained even more national acclaim. My expectation is to continue ACPS` s expansion in accordance with our by-laws. Since its inception in 1939, ACPS has continued to be an invitational organization, but non-members` prints are invited and juried for admission into selected open shows.

The public is enthusiastically invited to attend!

When the original-forming members of the American Color Print Society [ACPS] met in 1939 they were artist revolutionaries. Their first show, in 1940, heralded the arrival of the modern American print. Previously printmaking had usually been restricted to black and white etchings, at least in regard to juried shows. Finally there was critical recognition and acceptance of color.
The original 85 artists opened printmaking to color and encouraged experimentations which today has become part of American Art tradition: the use of color in lithography, block printing, etching, intaglio, monotype and computer art; and creativity has been further extended to materials and techniques in multiple combinations.

The 72nd. ACPS annual exhibition showcases our member artists from a national perspective, as well as the Philadelphia area; exhibited artwork will arrive from all areas of the United States. Our experienced juror is John Caperton ,Curator, The Print Center. He is a noted and experienced art gallery exhibition coordinator and curator. Ten art awards, including the $500 Lasuchin prize ,will be given for outstanding merit.
While all artists share the fact of their professionalism, each is an individual with their own unique aesthetic prospective and techniques.
The Cheltenham Center for the Arts was selected both for its convenient location, near Philadelphia, and based on its creative reputation: active artists and cohorts.
The members of the ACPS invites all art enthusiasts and art lovers to view this juried show. We look forward to meeting you at the opening!
