Artist Statement
I am a painter and printmaker living and working in Mansfield, Connecticut. My artwork is derived from the world around me. It is made of collected objects, people, places, textures and memories that I rearrange and reconfigure into one coherent image. I strive to make each work both believable to the senses and challenging to the mind.
Printmaking has given me a vehicle of _expression that has always excited, invigorated and sustained my artmaking. The pleasure of drawing, combined with the surprises inherent in both the etching and the printing processes keeps my work fresh and my imagination stimulated.
The imagery I use in my work functions on many levels; these range from the depiction of real space, to the abstract patterns that makeup my images within their rectangular format. The images themselves are representative of intellectual statements on themes that have been a wellspring for me throughout my life. These themes are based on the illusion of time/space and on the ambiguities inherent in human perceptions.
