Artist Statement
"My collagraph printed handmade paperwork is about ritual, the
oneness of creating. It's about color, interaction, and space. It's
about patience, time, and getting in touch with my inner spirit. It's
about memories, a fear of forgetting, and about continually
discovering new ways to record those memories through visual
expression."
This piece is from my hidden book series. In each piece I challenged
myself to have fun hiding a book image in each painting. While
continuing to work within a square, this piece took on a landscape
theme. As an avid fly fisher, I am very conscious of the atmospheric
conditions of the landscape around me. While working on the various stages my artwork, I step back
frequently to evaluate its progression. I was totally surprised at
what I saw this time. As I have often said, the
work takes on a mind of its own! I had unknowingly created a
landscape with dry stream beds and dying fish. The radiating sun had
caused a drought and the irrigation of the land was almost
nonexistent. Always amazed at the Indian patterns that seem to
automatically appear in my work, it was only natural that a "rain
dancer" should come on the scene and complete my story.
